KARNATAKA ENVIRONMENT AWARD 2012-13
Department of Forests, Ecology and Environment of Karnataka State has awarded Karnataka Environment Award 2012-13 to DISHA (Development Initiatives for Sustainable Human Advancement) Trust, a non- governmental organization involved in rural development and environment protection in Gurpur Hobli of Mangalore Taluk. This award was given to one individual and one NGO each of the three geographical regions of Karnataka namely Coastal Forest (Belagam,Shimoga, Chickmagalur, Mysore, Kodagu, Chamarajnagara, Hassan,Dakshina Kannada, Uttar kannada and Udupi), South( Mandya, Ramanagara, Bengaloor Rural, Kolar, Chickballapur, and Tumkur) and North (Davanagere, Chitradurga, Haveri, Dharawad, Gadag, Bellari, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Bidar,Gulbarga,Yadagiri,Rayachur and Koppal districts) for their outstanding achievement in the field of environmental conservation. DISHA was chosen from the Coastal forest region of Karnataka.
Mr. B. Ramanath Rai, Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment felicitated these achievers in an award distribution ceremony held on 18.06.2013 at Chowdaiah Memorial hall in Bangalore. Mrs. Irene Veigas Managing Trustee Mr. Mohammad Guthigar Secretary, Mr. Sylvester D’Souza Treasurer, Mr. Henry Valder Project Coordinator, Mr. Rudesh Field Coordinator and Mrs. Sumangala staff member of DISHA received the award. Dr. Aswathnarayana, MLA of Malleshwaram constituency presided over the function. Dr. Vaman Acharya Chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Mr. Ramalinga Reddy, minister for Transport were present on the dais.
