Soil & Water Conservation
DISHA intends to raise awareness and increase people’s participation in the protection and development management of natural resources. For that, we take measures with the aim to:
- Enabling the local communities to conserve and manage their land, water and agriculture production in a sustainable manner as a means of providing sustainable livelihood opportunities.
- Improving the availability of water resources, soil fertility and productivity of agricultural land for attaining sustainable livelihoods by restoration, reclamation and management of natural resources.
- Encourage sustainable agricultural practices among small and marginal farmers to improve soil and plant health thereby maintaining ecological balance.
- Building and strengthening the capacities of peoples groups, SHGs and federation on self managed and self sustaining basis towards protection and management of natural resources
- Improve the land and water situation in the villages through application of appropriate soil and water conservation, harvesting structures and other methods.
- Improvement in agriculture through adoption of sustainable agricultural practices like composting and suitable land and water management methods.
- Assessment of availability of natural resources, utilization pattern by families and related issues in the target villages for developing a Natural Resources Data base(NRD)
- Increase the vegetative cover by planting forest and horticultural plants.
Some Measures to improve water Conditions are followed: Farm pond, Renovation of ponds, Irrigation open wells with shutter modification, Drinking water open wells, stone lining and parapet wall construction, Roof water harvesting(RWH), Roof water harvesting Campaign.
